Symantec's marketing of Norton Tools is simply brilliant. They spend a great deal of their revenue on marketing part of which is paying OEM such as Dell, HP, etc to get their products preinstalled on new pc's.
I've used their tools since the late 80's, early 90's. Back in the "old days" their tools were top notch. Something happened at Symantec around 2001/2002 where they stopped making high quality tools.
I've seen several hundred of machines where Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Systemworks, and Norton 360 (the worst) has either let in Viruses, Spyware, Adware, and Trojans or has itself crippled the computer it's installed on.
If you search the web or read reviews in magazines you'll find that most praise Symantec's tools. The reason for this is simple economics. Symantec is a huge advertiser which gives them some pull when in comes to the way the tests are conducted.
