You've heard and seen the ads everywhere about Registry Cleaners being an all powerful tool that will speed up and fix all sorts of problems.
The Windows Registry is composed of thousands of lines of code which can contain that's not necessary for Windows to run and they can contain information about programs removed long ago.
Registry Cleaners can clean out this old and unnecessary code but in most cases no performance is gained simply because even several hundred errors is such a small amount compared to the total number of lines of code in the Registry.
Keep in mind that it is also not possible for any Registry Cleaner to know about all possible Registry keys that can be created and/or modified by every single Program, Utility, Windows Update, etc. This can cause what are known as "False Positives" which is when a key necessary for a program or Windows to run is removed.
We do not recommend using a Registry Cleaner. If you insist on using one we do recommend one that is not too aggressive like CCleaner which you can get here: http://www.ccleaner.com/
